Saturday night pop anachronisms
Saturday night here in Australia - and music is on.
Can't help but notice the anachronism in some of the lyrics.
The Beatles Mr Postman is faintly ridiculous:
There must be some word today
From my girlfriend so far away
Please Mister postman look and see
If there's a letter, a letter for me
I been standing here waiting Mister postman
So patiently
For just a card or just a letter
Saying she's returning home to me
Still the BBC version is - well - fabulous...
But for sheer anachronistic silliness nobody can beat The Smith's classic double anachronism:
And now I know how Joan of Arc felt
Now I know how Joan of Arc felt
As the flames rose to her Roman nose
And her Walkman started to melt
Daddy what is a Walkman?
