Advance disclosure: I have no position long or short AMP. I have considered going long the company several times - but every time I have peeled back the onion the inner layers are more rotten than you can imagine. So I passed. AMP also gave me the most unsatisfactory investor relations meeting I have ever had. This was in May 2021. I wrote an angry blogpost then about the company. I never published that blogpost because a staff member had a relative who worked at AMP. She does not work at AMP now - and I feel less constrained.
Thanks for making your previously unpublished post now public. Today I have read the 5 July 2023 AMP ASX announcement on the legal decision by the Federal Court on the BOLR class action.
The tone of that release by AMP Investor enquiries shows me your views are the reality, I choose to believe. AMP release refers only to Investor enquiries not a professional AIRA qualified person.
IR in Australia AIRA is a particular professional subgroup with their own professional association and professional standards. I just checked their website www.australasianir.com.au and found that currently there were no representatives from AMP as Board members or working group members.
One final question can I send your post on AMP to other of my friends and professional colleges?
Great article John. There are 2 ways to handle the incumbent’s dilemma. AMP took the wrong one!
I was offered a job there in '98 [Strategy Unit]
Did I dodge a bullet
AMP purchased GIO in '99, a rash move I attribute to its brash Yank CEO, George Trumbull
The rest is history.
Terrific article John. Now getting to understanding a little better the whole rotten edifice called AMP.
